| Lots of memories from 1974 - 1977 when I worked at the Apollo. Lost contact with most
of the people from that time, however, here are names that will take some down memory
lane (is that a good thing ???).
Willie Potts - house electrician
Tommy Gray - DJ and plumber Gus
- cellarman (think he married usherette). Jamie
- one of the roadies last heard touring with Ted Nugent). Les
Nicholson - electrician John Fallon - front of house bow tie
Any of
the above been seen or heard

| Hi I worked at the Apollo from 1982 - 1985 intially as the electrician and then Stage
Manager, I remember working with Isobel Gracie - The box office manager and big
Neilly the meanest bouncer in town. I found this website by accident but glad that I
did, I still have some original stage passes from that era and a reference that was
given to me by Isobel Gracie when I left in 1985, I briefly worked in the Barrowland
after 1985 as the stage electrician.
I am now living in Australia but would
love to hear from anyone from that time

| Hi Bernie, It's may (the acrobat from drumchapel!) How is Mndy doing I often think
about her. I know how Wullie Potts got his pub, something to do with aquiring some
light fittings for sale! Only joking Wullie if you read this. I remember getting
excited that it was my turn to present the trophy to the group, (they used to do this
for sell out concerts), I thought I was on for the status quo one, only to be very
disappointed by getting the one for Errol Brown (Hot Chocolate) instead, not too cool
for a heavy metal chick of 16! Anyway, remember me to Matt, Drew and Mandy. Oh!
another thought, why did they sent us to look for bombs before the concerts, we'd all
been to Lauders and could hardly see each other!!!

| Hi all, great idea for a site... at last something about the "auld
place" We all grew up there for various reasons watching some of the
greatest names in rock. Anyone remember standing outside in the freezing cold
after a gig to meet the bands? (Why was it always so ****** cold there, even
in summer? Did that side alley have it's own weather system?) Some of the
bands were a pleasure to meet - Maiden, Scorps, Hagar etc. there were some
notable exceptions though (a certain bass-playing member of Blackfoot who INSISTED on
being called Mr!...yeah right mate)
Keep the memories coming. Hi to all

| Hi Mo, before Archie formed GLASGOW with Mick he played in a band called WILDCAT. The
line up was Brian Clarke (guitar) Archie Dixon (guitar) Mick Boyle (vocals) Joe Kilna
(drums) and me George Caldwell (bass). The band played some original material and
covers by Deep Purple, AC/DC, and so on. The version of Purple's HIGHWAY STAR with
Archie and Brian doing a twin lead version of the keybord parts was awesome...So was
our version of 'NUTBUSH CITY LIMITS'.
Before all of that I played with THE
DOWNTOWN FLYERS with Jim Ward (guitar) Jim Anderson (drums) Ian Muir (vocals) Davie
Deacon (keyboards) and me George Caldwell (bass). Jim Ward was/is an amazing
guitarist and still plays in London. He signed several recording contracts and played
with Tommy Boyce (American 'Songwriter of the Year' several years running)...why he
didn't become megga famous is anyones guess...Ian Muir moved on to play with Pete Way
in WAYSTED. He's made plenty of albums with them and I think they're still gigging.
Amazing singer.
For me, The GLASGOW BLUES LEGENDS came next, with George (Big
George) Watt (guitar) Gary Lathan (Guitar) Stevie Gallacher (Drums) Keiran (Rev Doc)
Docherty and me George Caldwell (bass). When the band went their separate ways they
became BIG GEORGE and the BUSINESS and REV DOC and the CONGREGATION. Everyone remains
friends to this day.
The DOWNTOWN FLYERS played CLOUDS many many times and
loved it every time. Around the same time bands like SALVATION, MOLLS MYRE,
CAPRICORN, and THE DEAD END KIDS were regulars at CLOUDS. The atmosphere was always
immense. Hundreds of screaming girls...the place was always packed. We loved it...we
also played SHUFFLES the rival to CLOUDS. Both venues were brilliant to play. For a
while we played a Rock set at THE MAGGIE but our manager banned us from doing that
because, as he pointed out..."if they can see you in there for nothing...they're
not going to pay to see you in here"...THE MAGGIE was a brilliant gig. I
remember seeing a band from Clydebank called REDWOOD playing WISHBONE ASH number in
there. They ewere really good that night. Don't really know what happened to
them.
Joe Kilna (WILDCAT) is now with Clanna Druma (not sure if that's the
correct spelling...they're a kind of Celtic drum outfit)...they played at MADONNA's
wedding and one of Joe's songs features in the Mel Gibson movie 'We Were Warriors'.

| Just found this site today after reading about it in Classic Rock mag!! It's
brilliant!! I've been sitting here laughing at all the photos and reading the
stories - and all those memories have just come flooding back. Brillant.
I
remember the Apollo with great affection.
One of my best memories was meeting
Blackfoot (9th April, 1982) after the gig when they come out front and met about 20
of us who had waited patiently.
One of my worst was getting absolutely
plastered in the Howff before a Whitesnake gig (20th December 1982) and spending the
whole gig calling God on one of the toilets up at the back of the stalls. All I
remember from that gig is David Coverdale shouting "Here's a song for ya!"
before almost every song! At least I was sober for the next night (Tuesday) and
caught the band in their prime.
Great Stuff!!! A long lost part of my
youth!
PS - anybody remember the Henry Gorman band? That was one band
who should have graced the stage of the Apollo!!! I'm looking for any of their stuff
especially "This Time Tomorrow" - please get in touch if you have any. I
will gladly pay any costs. Thanks.

| My Goad Henry Gorman !.Wee Henry made some recordings with Mike ? from the Incredible
String Band at his wee recording studio next to the Honours 3 pub .My band were
recording there in 1981 and I heard some footage of really good stuff one in
particular was " Keep of the grass" Grat guitar work.I did here a
rumour that he went over to the US to workwith Ronnie Montrose .Visit the Incredibles
website ( theve reformed too)and track Mike down he may still have some tapes of
Henry. Remember Frenzy at the Maggie and the Boston Red Sox Ha Ha some of the boys
are still playing.I play in a Showband with big Jack Webb ( keyboards ) and wee Ian
Latta on bass .Anyone remember them ?

guitar. But they had a disagreement and the invitation to join them was
withdrawn. I was a founder member of the Boston Red Sox along with Nicky
McEwen(Guitar). We started of as a 2 piece doing social clubs and brought in Tom White
on drums and Brian O'Neil on bass around 1975/6. The Maggie was a great gig and a
lot of good bands played there. Nicky left us on a weeks notice to join Frenzy and
Jerry Eadie of Gasoline Alley/Long Vehicle helped us out on guitar/vocals for our
last few gigs. John Corson.

| Talking of The Maggie - does anyone remember Beyond The Fringe or PS who used to play
there? Great theatrics and showmanship, and songs with such unlikely titles as 'Louie

was a bus driver called Gordon in real life??

| Ian Latta ? That name rings a bell...did he ever play in a Band with Ian Waddell on

been around 1979...might be a different guy though....

| I used to watch them on a Tuesday night at the Dial Inn,always at the front trying to
watch what Henry was doing with the guitar and then trying it at home to fail.
They would have been huge in America if they had the proper management. When chase
the night away was released i wrote into Dougie Donnely AT RADIO CLYDE and he played
it on a regular basis, I've met him a few times in recent years and he mentioned that
he was a fan of the band ( OR IS THAT A FANNY!). Possibly, Clyde would have copies
of the tapes from the Kelvingrove park summer gigs, they were always brilliant. Did
Henry not play in the "far corporations" versionof stairway to heaven in
the late 80's ? good luck with your search

Roxy Music gig at the Apollo from 1982 bryan in his cool laid back way has still not

| I done many many gigs at the Apollo favourites being AC/DC Quo etc! I would go with a
mate called Pat Austin who lived in Townhead which was handy if I missed the night
bus back to Toryglen. Our regular haunt was the Howff, then Nicky Tams,
AMPHORA, The Maggie, Dial Inn and then back to the Howff. There were about6 of us who
would meet in the Howff regularly and especially before a gig. I used to speak with
girl called Laurie in there when she turned up with her mate. Long light brown hair
and lovely, it would be great to hear from her again!
Going on from an earlier
posting, I got to know Henry Gorman through my mates brother who did some roadying
for Henry, a guy called Joe Austin who also had a guy called Cass helping him.
Both of them worked as gardeners in Greenfield park.It would be great to hear from

| Anybody know of Jim Horsfields whereabouts? He was a massive Quo fan and AC/DC then
somehow slipped into Simple Minds. Jim got me started with my first band when we were
at school together. It wasnt uncommon for either of us to come into school with a
hangover after a night at The Apollo,LoL!I don't play in bands so much now but i
still jam with two friends of mine ( I'm a Drummer )His Dad was a Janny if its any
help.

| Hi - a great site, congratulations...
I've opened a new site detailing 'who
played with who' focussing on Scottish bands, or Scots musicians who have travelled
further afield (like Carlisle !). If you can add any facts, have a look at:

All the best, Brian (Agatha's Moment, Knuckles,
The Key, Anagram)
